The event opened with a Special Guest – Cochrane’s own Eric Scott, and he was a real pleasure to hear. (Eric has learned some of his skills under the direction of our own Martin Russell.) Then “The Contenders” took the stage. Valdy and Gary usually have their own individual performance tours, but they enjoy performing together ever since the late 90s, when then first did some duets, and their nickname “Contenders” came about. It was great to spend the evening with them. They performed both solos and duets, and with each having a long history in the business, we heard a lot of music that we liked, and learned the background to some tunes. Great music, harmonies, and lyrics, some good stories and laughs! Valdy’s versatility with his guitars was impressive. And yes, it was another packed house!
Much of the audience arrived early, grabbed their favourite seats, and then relaxed before the concert with dessert apple pie or cheese cake – just ask for a big dollop of fresh whipped cream – and coffee/tea/juice/pop. Served up with a smile by our wonderful St. Andrew’s volunteers.
Many thanks to all the ticket holders, to Legacy, and to St. Andrew’s and its volunteers for supporting this wonderful series.
Legacy reminded everyone last night that our next concert is just two weeks away: an evening with Séan McCann, founding member of Great Big Sea.
